What is Diabetes ?

Diabetes Mellitus is a disease in which the body does not produce enough insulin or does not properly use the insulin it produces or both.

Blood sugar does not get into the the cells, builds up in the bloodstream, and results in High Blood Sugar.

How many types of diabetes are there ?

There are two main types of diabetes- type 1 and type 2 

In type 1 diabetes, the pancreas cannot produce insulin. 

Type 2 diabetes is the more common form of disbetes. In fact, about 90% of all diabetes cases worldwide are Type 2. Most people with type 2 diabetes are still able to produce insulin.

What causes type 2 diabetes ?  

Certain risk factors that may make a person to develop it , these include 

Overweight, Family history of diabetes, High blood Pressure of 140/90 mm Hg, Inactive lifestyle,  Raised triglycerides levels or  low HDL cholesterol. 

What is pediabetes ? 

Prediabetes iswhen the amount of glucose in your blood is above normal yet not high enough to be called diabetes. With prediabetes, your chances of getting type 2 diabetes.. You can even return to normal glucose levels, possibly without taking any medicines.

What are the signs and symptoms of diabetes ? 

The signs and symptoms of diabetes are: 

  • Urinating often 
  • Feeling very tired 
  • Feeling very hungry 
  • Being very thirsty 
  • Blurry eyesight 
  • Losing weight 
  • Slow healing of wound 
  • Dry, itchy skin

Why do to take care of your diabetes ?  

Over a period of time, high blood sugar can lead to :

  • heart disease 
  • Eye problems
